Zenkōji temple
· 長野市, 長野県
Zenkōji is one of Japan's most important and oldest Buddhist temples, founded in the 7th century and home to the first Buddhist statue ever brought to Japan. The temple welcomes visitors of all faiths and is famous for its pitch-black underground passage where pilgrims search for the 'Key to Paradise' beneath the main hall. The morning prayer ceremony, where head priests and priestesses bless visitors along the approach, offers an authentic spiritual experience rarely found at other temples.
