Byodo-in is a stunning UNESCO World Heritage temple in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, most famous for its Phoenix Hall which appears on the 10 yen coin. Originally built in 1052 as a villa for the Fujiwara clan, this architectural masterpiece exemplifies Pure Land Buddhism and features exquisite gold leaf decorations, historical Buddhist statues, and beautifully maintained gardens. The temple's reflection in the pond creates a breathtaking scene that looks like a paradise on earth, especially during cherry blossom season and autumn foliage.
