Saruhashi, or 'Monkey Bridge,' is a historic wooden bridge spanning the Katsura River gorge in Yamanashi Prefecture, celebrated as one of Japan's three most unusual bridges. Originally built over 1,300 years ago, legend says monkeys inspired its construction by forming a living chain across the ravine. The elegant arched structure offers breathtaking views of the emerald waters below and surrounding mountain scenery, making it a perfect stop between Tokyo and Mount Fuji.

💡 Tips for Visitors
The bridge is best visited during autumn foliage season (late October to November) or spring when the mountains are lush green. Access requires paying a small admission fee at the entrance, and cash is recommended as card payment may not be available. The area has limited English signage, so consider downloading a translation app or bringing a guidebook with directions from Saruhashi Station (20-minute walk).
