Shisendo Jozan-ji is a serene 17th-century hermitage temple nestled in Kyoto's northern hills, built by retired samurai and poet Ishikawa Jozan. The temple is renowned for its meticulously manicured karesansui rock garden, brilliant azalea blooms in spring, and fiery maple foliage in autumn. Visitors can experience the contemplative atmosphere while listening to the rhythmic sounds of the shishi-odoshi (deer scarer) bamboo fountain echoing through the peaceful gardens.
