Yasaka Kōshin-dō Temple is a small, vibrant temple in Kyoto's Higashiyama district, famous for its hundreds of colorful kukurizaru—stuffed cloth balls representing bound monkeys. According to Kōshin faith, these願掛け (wish-making) charms help visitors give up one desire to make a more important wish come true. The temple's incredibly photogenic exterior, covered in rainbow-hued fabric spheres, has made it a popular Instagram spot while maintaining its spiritual significance.

💡 Tips for Visitors

The temple is very small and can get crowded with photographers, so visit early morning for the best experience and photos. Write your wish on a kukurizaru ball (available for purchase) and tie it to the temple grounds as part of the tradition. Located near Kiyomizu-dera Temple, it's easily combined with a walking tour of the historic Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka slopes.
