Genbikei Gorge is a stunning two-kilometer river valley carved through volcanic rock by the Iwai River in Iwate Prefecture, featuring dramatic cliffs, unusual rock formations, and crystal-clear waters. Visitors can enjoy scenic walking trails along the gorge while taking in the natural beauty that changes magnificently with each season, from cherry blossoms in spring to vibrant foliage in autumn. The gorge is also famous for its unique 'flying dango' basket system, where sweet rice dumplings and tea are delivered across the river via a pulley-operated wooden basket from a traditional teahouse perched on the cliff.
